About Ideal Weight

Ideal weight is an estimate of a healthy body weight based primarily on height, and sometimes gender and age. It is not a strict target, but a guideline for general health.

Common formulas:

  • Devine Formula (1974): Male: 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet; Female: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet.
  • Robinson Formula (1983): Male: 52 kg + 1.9 kg per inch over 5 feet; Female: 49 kg + 1.7 kg per inch over 5 feet.
  • Common BMI-based range: For adults, a BMI of 18.5–24.9 is considered healthy. This calculator uses a typical range: Male (21.5–24), Female (20–22.5).

Purpose & Application:

Ideal weight is used for health screening, fitness planning, and as a reference in clinical and nutritional settings. It does not account for muscle mass, bone density, or individual health conditions.
